Periodontics is a branch of the medical-surgical dental specialty that studies the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and conditions that affect the tissues that support the dental organs (gingiva, periodontal ligament, root cementum and alveolar bone) and the implanted substitutes, for the maintenance of the health, function and aesthetics of the teeth and their adjacent tissues.<\/p>\n

Periodontology is the contemporary specialty that emerges from dentistry-stomatology to support the study of scientific evidence on the state of healthy and diseased periodontium. The main periodontal diseases that affect teeth are periodontitis and gingivitis.<\/p>\n
